A twenty-four hour travel day brought us the rest of the way around the world to home. It took us sixteen months to slowly visit Mexico, Central America, South America, Antarctica, Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, India, Egypt and Rome but with three flights we were suddenly back in California.
As we arrived in India, Mike’s knee got unexpectedly worse so we decided to end our trip a few months earlier than planned to get home for medical care. December 1 became our going home date and we began to look forward to it.
Arriving is Seattle was so strange, after being in non-English speaking countries for so long we could finally understand the airport announcements. I was distracted by other people’s conversations because I could understand what they were saying where for months I had just tuned out conversations I couldn’t understand.
We were greeted by our daughter Lindsey and son-in-law Ryan at the Fresno, California airport and before we knew it were walking through the front door of our home. It is good to be back. Back to the comfort of our own bed, back to our friends and back to our wonderful family. We enjoyed everyday (well, most everyday) of our travels but it is really nice to be home.
The last leg of our trip took us from New Delhi, India to Cairo, Egypt. We met Lindsey and Ryan and spent a week touring Cairo (Egyptian Culture and History in Cairo). Then, we flew south to Sharm al Sheikh, Egypt for a week of scuba diving (Scuba Diving the Red Sea). As Lindsey and Ryan flew home we flew to Rome (The Many Layers of Rome), our last city, before going back to California. Our final flight went from Rome to Frankfurt, Germany to Seattle, Washington and then on to Fresno, California.
